It seems like the compliance department should just be there for show basically and not giving orders. They should be the ones told what not and what to do.

The compliance department should exist to recommend policies and procedures and to audit (internal) the department against the policies and procedures that have been implemented.

It should have zero authority other than to notify appropriate parties when it identifies something questionable.

If the AD decides to make a decision based on teh recommendation of the Compliance department, that's still a decision the AD makes. He cannot hide behind the compliance department.

The current predicament is that the NCAA is on campus and closely monitoring this situation. If LSU goes against the recommendation of the compliance department, it would look really bad to the NCAA.

LSU is scared to death of getting the dreaded “lack of institutional control” penalty.
