Did you read the article?

They worked with a company that assists with DNA evidence on cold case files. They were able to get some additional information using the DNA evidence from the killed boy. Then went through the suspected trash to collect dna swabs. Then got a search warrant to swab her mouth and confirmed the match.

They didn’t run a query trough their database.
