Just became backwards compatible and they made it free for a limited time. I didn't like the first one but I grabbed this anyway just to give it a shot.

3 is free on Gamepass. Weird that they waited this long to make 2 available.

I have today and next week off and I’m not traveling anywhere so I did the 14 day trial of Gamepass primarily for MCC and Crackdown 3. I played Crackdown 3 for like 30 min and it seemed as close to identical to the original as a video game can be so I turned it off and haven’t even considered playing it for a few days. Think I’ll give it another shot today or tomorrow.
I absolutely loved the original (at least for the first 10-15ish hours of playing) but have never really cared for the sequels. Also I’m convinced that the original Crackdown had the most well designed game demo of all time.

Crackdown 3 is a good game provided you can still enjoy the original game. Most of the poor reviews speak to the idea that what Crackdown 1 did has been done better by other open world games that have released since 2007.

Yeah I mean with Crackdown, literally the entire game is the side activities almost every other open world litters the map with yet those games also have a main campaign to play through.
Crackdown doesn't have that. It's all about checking things off a list and watching your character's abilities grow as a result.

I’ve been playing some more and while I enjoy it and will likely finish it, I’m not sure Crackdown 3 is necessarily a good game. The map is super bland and everything looks and feels identical. I really enjoyed the brighter colors and how the different areas of the city were run by specifically stylized factions. I’m less than 10 hours into Crackdown 3 and I’m already bored to death by the world in-game. I know that you’re not supposed to play this game for the art direction or story but it’s so off putting and dull.
All of that negative stuff said, the new weapons are fun as shite and I still love the simple yet entertaining platforming aspects of this game. These “open world for the sake of open world” games should probably die off soon and/or get retooled into something better but Crackdown is still satisfying to play in its most important aspects of platforming and blowing up everything.
