I don't think it is or will ever be considered a Major. It's got the best field with the biggest purse so it is obviously the biggest non-major tourny. The masters, US Open, and Open Championship all have some type of flair that sets it appart.
The Master's has the alure and awe around Augusta National, no tournament will ever have that. While the US Open is the toughest test played on near concrete greens, it shouldn't be copied. The Open has the game's history and "the way golf was meant to be played" in the elements with sideways rain and what not. IMO the PGA is kind the 4th meh one and I don't see the point in adding a fifth meh one. Just leave it as the biggest non major
