While I agree about being able to hot lap a 911 until you run out of tires, brake pad or fuel I can't go with perfectly engineered. The engine hanging out the arse is arguably the worst starting point for drivetrain layout there is for a track car. The fact they have honed it into a car that is easy to drive fast without changing the layout is a testament to stoic Teutonic obduracy. Put the HP into a Cayman and it will eat a 911s lunch, but I still love the 911. Anyone that has driven a 964 or even a 993 (especially a Turbo) at the limit has probably learned first hand the bowel emptying feeling from snap oversteer. I once came 3 feet from kissing Mrs. Armco in a 964 and it was a full 2 minutes before I had any idea what and how it happened, I was initially convinced someone had pissed oil or antifreeze on the track.
