AvX in the comics focused on the status of mutants in the world. The Big bad was mainly the Phoenix Force/Cyclops
I actually would like a fully realized Cyclops as well. He's Marvel's most complete and storied character outside of Cap/Spidey/Hulk

Even further back, the Avengers versus X-Men limited series was a fight over bringing Magneto to an international body to stand trial for war crimes. The Avengers worked for the UN at the time, and the X-Men opposed extradiction of any mutant, even Magneto.
It's actually a pretty great miniseries with a great ending (Magneto submits to the jurisdiction of the court well before the climax, the climax is the trial itself).
