Whats with some sports fans burning jerseys?

Earlier today, a report surfaced on Twitter of Islanders fans burning NYI John Tavares jersies. I don't get why their so upset over sometime signing in free agency elsewhere. Plus he's from Toronto and grew up a Leafs fan.

Sports and politics have replaced religion for some people in our society. Spending that much money on jersey to burn it because you don’t like a decision a player made is asinine
