Bass in Virginia

Just moved to southeast virginia last fall, is anyone familiar with largemouth bass cycles here? When they spawn, start biting, etc?

paddle the Meherrin and other blackwater rivers.
Since you are close by, try Weldon NC tailrace for stripers. used to be an event 15 years ago.

if you are around hampton roads....
the small lakes and reservoirs around there are all really good, especially the ones with motor restrictions.
the areas off the intracoastal were and back bay NWR were very much like marsh fishing in la - except the bass were bigger.
tons of little places with big fish...
the time i was there I was amazed at how good the bass fishing was there.

I grew up in Southeast va bass fishing probably 75 days a year, there is one answer... the Carova beach canals. The only time they are'nt on fire is the dead of summers, or if iwe had really cold winter like last year where the sound froze up. Me and my brother fished them over Christmas and had about a 21 bag, he had a 23.5 pound bag their last week.

Yeah I miss it now that I live down, I know this is sportsman paradise and everything now, but Currituck Sound, knotts island, back bay, that's OG sportsman paradise, especially for duck hunting.

this spot was quais/public back then, that little lake in the woods was the best woody hole and bass hole(the pits at yellow water NWS in FL had bigger fish but not the same number of solid 3-5lb fish) I ever saw. also caught some giant pickerel there. spent every morning of the then october woody season there limited by group all but one day.

the two lakes on/near dam neck were solid.... duck hunting there was good.. but nothing like LA had back then

Oh I mean it still has some very solid places for sure, I have several ponds for woodies it's about a 30 min woody limit, but the days done there. I mostly hunt up down the sound knotts Island, and back bay. I like the big water hunting though. It used to be as good or honestly probably better than louisiana way back in the day before any of our times, market hunting decimated the atlantic flyway.
Yeah there's plenty of little ponds and lakes that are great, the suffolk lakes are good fishing. And yeah theres loads of solid 3-5lbs.. but we really lack on fish bigger than that. But especially back bay its a far cry.
