You might also consider Chicago. A lot like NYC, but not as hectic and the L is a much easier system to navigate than NY’s Subway.
I wouldn’t do NYC in 3 days. You’ll end up being disappointed by all the things you couldn’t do.
Vegas is tailor made for 3 day trips and much cheaper than NYC. Just my two cents...
