I have no access to gas at my home and have heat pumps...
I CAN NOT stand them if it's cold. They never seem to get caught up, they don't heat well. If I could do a gas furnace I would do it immediately.
The ages of mine are two are 2009, and just put an addition on and one is 6 months old it doesn't heat either.

If you access to natural gas then a furnace is a no brainer. If you're on propane than I'd lean toward heat pump.
This is what required me to have heat pump the one time I had one. Gas is now a requirement if I move.

This is the reason why.
