You can't replicate the culture and vibe. You can't fake it. You can build all the Top Golfs, Buc-ee's, Dave & Buster's, Olive Gardens and hold all the SXSWs that you want. They will never be Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, the FQ or the fried chicken the old black mama makes at the corner store down the street. For fricksake, they can't even get Popeye's right in other States and it's a fricking franchise.

You're doing that thing again where you act like NOLA is the only place with culture and all we have are chains.

While other cities have their own thing, we grab and own our culture in New Orleans in a unique way. If someone in another large Southern city said everyone meet in the center of town is there one place the overwhelming majority would go? Are there multiple festivals where such a large percentage of the locals attend on at least one day? Are most of the neighborhoods planned or did the grow organically? I agree that a lot of what makes us unique and interesting can be odd to folks who do not get it. We had a major incident that resulted in folks taking out a full page newspaper ad over a waiter getting fired at a restaurant. Folks will nearly brawl over how dark a roux should be. We drive and park like crap. Our streets have built in speed bumps. As for a lot of the bad, that becomes part of the inside joke and culture that some folks just do not want to get.

You're over exaggerating my sentiment.

Of course you can find stuff to do in any city. But when 9 out of 10 people you find off the street agree with something, even if it's an opinion, you can generally accept it as probably being true. Not true in the sense of a scientific fact but true in the sense that you would probably feel the same way if experienced with an open mind.

It is generally accepted that Texas has better infrastructure on the whole, a better economy on the whole and it is generally accepted that Louisiana but more specifically, New Orleans is more fun. It's also common sense that there are places in Texas that aren't completely boring and have shity infrastructure and economy. It's also common sense that there are places in Louisiana that are boring and have great infrastructure and economy.

But it's just as absurd to try to claim that there are any places in Texas that are as unique or fun as New Orleans just as it is to claim that there are any cities in Louisiana that are as economically successful as Dallas.

Get in where you fit in.
