I'm running 3 Group 27's in my 21' bass boat. Went with the Duracell's from Sams. Hard to beat that deal, imo.

I have tried both gel and lead batteries, I have found the single most important step in lifespan is to keep them plugged into an automatic charger ALL the time when not in use.

Doing this I am on year 4 with my current lead core batteries. Hard for me to justify the gel batteries again if constant charge gets that much out of them.

On the actual battery group go big or go home never wished I had a smaller battery on a trolling motor ever!
