Same here. I like his music a lot and he puts on a great live show. But as far as being a great guitar player...he's solid but not great. But that's not what his music is about.

I'd put Jeff Beck or Mark Knopfler at the top of the list. Beck has the most unique style of anybody I know of. He's simultaneously working the strings, volume knob and whammy bar and he does stuff that other humans just can't do.

Knopfler is often overlooked because he is so understated but if you really listen to his playing, there is a lot of subtlety in it. He has oodles and oodles of feel.
