The game is evolving to where teams naturally score more. Which is why offensive records are being broken on pretty much a year to year basis. As far as points per game that's a team statistic. It's obviously heavily correlated with offensive production but a team stat.

how about when we compare the offense to other offenses in the 2018 season? 38th in ppg and 11th rated offense when taking into account SOS of defenses played against and other factors by unbiased computer ratings

that's right, stats only matter when they are used to knock Ensminger or Orgeron otherwise they are meaningless.

Offensive production was higher among the elite teams in the 70’s. Now with 85 scholarships teams have had to move to a passing game. The fact that the big twelve and Mountain west have zero defense and run up scores is not relevant. The SEC is not much different than 30 years ago when Spurrier introduced the fun and gun.
