april is usually when you see the best prices for lodging.
the banff brewery is pretty good. order the poutine, no matter where you go. there's an irish pub that we really liked, mcquires, i think. make the drive to jasper. we did a couple of hikes in the area, but didn't do anything really at lake louise. lake louise, will be crowded no matter when you go.
that is the most beautiful area i've ever seen. at some point, i would love to have a few days to just poke around and soak as much of it in as possible instead of just passing through
