aTm got the jump ball but knocked it out of bounds. Does that count as them getting the opening possession?

Depends on who has the possession arrow at that time.

This isn't football, or the NBA bro.

Already gave the possession to aTm. You have to control the tip for the other team to get possession. aTm never controlled it so technically, we got the opening tip.

How does that remotely relate to football?.....bro

Ummmm...because in football the team who doesn't receive in the first half has the option to receive possession in the second half.

If we can get a TD to end the 1st half and then one to open the 2nd half, we can put them away.

Good try but you’re wrong. In football if a team doesn’t receive the ball the first half, they Automatically get possession the second half. You may be trying to relate it to a coin flip? Idk. But I was talking about the jump ball. Idk the rules as to why I asked. LSU didn’t cleanly get the jump ball. aTm hit the jump ball out of bounds which is why I asked.

You’re referring to winning the coin flip. And if they defer, that means they don’t receive the opening possession.

Which is why, when a team defers the other team always take the ball as their option. If they wouldn't the other team would take the ball, and then have the option to pick first in the second half, and take the ball again. This actually has happened to a Les Miles team, where they didn't get the ball to start the first or second half.
Learn your rules. This isn't Madden.
And on topic, the winner of the jump ball does not determine possession in the second half, unless there is not a jump ball in the first half.

Serious Clark? When did that ever happen?
Deferring to the second half means the team won the toss and wants the opening possession of the second half. There is no option for that team to change their mind on what they want to do after halftime. THEY RECEIVE THE BALL REGARDLESS IN THE SECOND HALF!
There is always a jump ball to open a basketball game.
Walrus answered my question off the bat so there was no need to make yourself sound stupid.

You can keep saying this, but I'm telling you the rules.
If a team defers in the first half, they are doing so to take the ball in the second half, but they do not HAVE to.
Like I said. You win the toss, you elect to accept or defer. If you accept, you get to pick between 4 options (kick, receive, defend end zone A or end zone B). If teams accept, they should always take the option of receiving, otherwise the other team will get the ball twice.
Know the rules before you call somebody stupid.

A jump ball, as in a held ball/tied ball, whatever you want to call it. I call it a jump ball, because in the NBA they actually have another jump. In college, it just alternates possession, thus the original jump does zero to determine possession in the second half, unless there is not another jump ball, after the original one.

aTm got the possession arrow after the jump ball was knocked out of bounds.

Yeah, because LSU had possession first. Do I need to also explain to you what a possession is in basketball?

We got the opening possession of second half which means aTm had the opening possession and turned the ball over (fumbled the opening kickoff)

This was something I’ve never seen, so as it played out, technically aTm got the opening possession of the jump ball. LSU got the first possession of the second half.
