I believe homicides against police officers has also been trending down but when something like this happens it's obviously newsworthy.

Gun violence directed at officers is down? What empirical data do you have proving this? It’s astronomically higher, by orders of magnitude, since President Obama pretended to unite the country, but only provided the initial fuel for a race war or pretend justified war against cops.
