Border is worse than it has been in decades

A CBS News reporter appeared to be stunned when a Border Patrol agent told her that the crisis at the border was the worst that he has seen in decades.
Customers & Border Patrol Agent Fernando Grijalva told Mireya Villarreal what he had seen at the border between the United States and Mexico in the state of Arizona.
"Fernando Grijalva says this area has become a hotbed for illegal crossings," Villerreal said to her viewers.
"Let me put it this way, I've seen six different presidents in the time that I've been with the Border Patrol, and this is the worst crisis that I've seen" he explained.
"You actually will use that word, 'crisis'?" she asked.
"Yes," he responded.
Villerreal also appeared surprised that the Border Patrol agents would work without pay since the partial government shutdown began more than a month ago.
"I mean they're working without pay, I mean," she said, "tomorrow will be the second paycheck that they're missing."
"They believe that strongly in the mission and they know they, and we, have a job to do," Grijalva responded.
Villerreal showed a portion of the border that was poorly guarded and explained that many buses drive right up to the lax barrier, and let off migrants who become illegal aliens by simply crossing through.
"Last year, border agents apprehended 52,000 people in this area alone, an increase of more than a thousand apprehensions a month over the previous year," she added.
President Donald Trump has promised a border wall since before he was nominated for the Republican presidential nomination, but his efforts have been stymied first by a few Republicans when his party had control of Congress, and how by Democrats.
On Thursday the president hinted that he might sign on to a continuing resolution to fund the government and end the shutdown, but only if Democrats agreed to a "down payment" for the wall. He has also indicated that he is looking into the option of declaring a national emergency at the border and using his emergency powers to begin construction without the approval of Congress.

As south and Central America continue to decline, this is bound to happen. We must deal with this issue, now.
CBP is a dangerous job.

Trump has been president for two years with full control of Congress with the GOP and the border is worse than ever.
Go figure. It’s almost like he has no idea what he’s doing.
More is required than a Wall. You need a full blown approach to this and he’s to lazy to learn what is needed. And, he’s a terrible negotiator, so he can’t even get the wall. What a mess.

How do you negotiate with people who will never compromise? The Dems can’t give him this wall willingly. Do you realize how big of a deal this is politically? This is all about 2020, and the Dems will not willingly give him a win.
I agree with you about the GOP congress we had his first two years. When it comes down to it though, probably half of the GOP congressmen don’t want a wall. Their special interest donors would lose a lot of money if a wall was built.

What better, simpler, more effective option would you suggest that deters and prevents a simple border walkover that then allows illegals to begin a tedious process of litigation about “human rights” and proper citizenship?
I had a neighbor that kept crossing my backyard to fish from my property with seemingly no concept that they were trespassing and hanging out in my yard. I built a fence along the property line, and lo and behold it was never an issue again.

Overall illegal border crossings are at a 20-year low. This agent's experience does not reflect the broader reality.

Another deranged leftist that has no clue what the DHS secretary laid out in a public hearing.
You people are sad and lazy.

So a snowflake liberal in Atlanta is going to dictate border reality to a border agent?
I give you credit, you are a true legend in your own mind

Do you think I say that border crossings are the lowest in the last 20 years because I stand on the border every day and perform a head count?
Or maybe because that's the actual fact of the matter, as reported by people who actually collect such data?

Another fricking moron who doesn't remember that the Republican tax bill didn't need 60 votes yet somehow MAGICALLY passed the Senate.
