I'll go in a different direction. Cannon Beach, Oregon.
Best vacation I've ever had. Jaw droppingly beautiful with endless outdoor stuff.

Went there in August with the wife. Beautiful area of the country.

Cannon is really pretty to look at but dang the water is so cold. the water never warms up. We went in July and it was cold as heck. But the view was awesome

Interesting. Did you fly into Portland and rent a car? Roughly how far is it from Portland? What all is there to do in Cannon Beach (hiking trails, restaurants, shops, breweries)? Are homes easily obtainable (Airbnb)?
