A lot of experienced woodworkers here that have built some great looking stuff.

On my house I’m building I have white painted risers with oak treads I plan to stain medium to dark. What would be the best topcoat for the treads?

Floor grade polyurethane probably, you'll want something tough or you'll be refinishing them every few years.

I think we used some type of Sherwin Williams stain and sanding sealer on mine about 10 years ago and they still look great.

My uncle is a house painter and came to help me with mine. He bought all the stuff from his Sherwin Williams dealer at whatever discount they give him so I'm not exactly sure which ones he used.

Mine are red oak.
