I'll say that without ALL the facts, it's tough to say whether his story is believable at this point, but it seems exceedingly unlikely that he had no idea what they were planning to do. When they asked him to drive to a pawn shop at 2 in the morning, red flags should have been raised

Ok, let's play the hypothetical games, since that's what you are doing.

Let's say Taylor was just the driver. He may, or may not, have known. It doesn't matter in this scenario. His buddies involved don't roll over on him, and say he didn't know. Charges or dropped, or it's reduced to something much less and he faces no serious charges.

OR

The DA just decides he is a small fish in this case, and doesn't bothering throwing the book at him. Charges or dropped, or reduced, because he has no previous criminal history (no clue if he does or not, but we are playing the hypothetical game).

Do you still want him gone, without giving a second chance?

If yes, let's say we get rid of him. He goes the Juco route for a year, does great, and ends up at Bama kicking our arse. You won't be furious with the coaching staff then?

Personally, yea, I don't think you deserve a second chance if you actively participated in stealing guns from a pawn shop.

But, if the charges are dropped, I really wouldn't blame the staff either way. I can see why some would say he deserves a second chance, and I can certainly see why some would think a second chance is not warranted.

What I hope happens is a situation similar to what Lsupimp described. That is, Taylor's buddies called him up and asked if he could give them a ride somewhere. I looked at the pawn shop on google maps and it is in a strip mall with several other businesses. Maybe his buddies asked him to give them a ride to the strip mall without disclosing why they wanted to go there and maybe Taylor didn't think anything of it because there was a bar or food place or convenience store in the strip mall open late. Once there and once he realized what they were planning to do, maybe he was scared at that point and felt he was too far in to leave or call the cops.

Now, the situation I just described doesn't seem like the most likely, but I suppose it's plausible. The google street view shows a chinese restaurant and a smoke shop in the same strip mall. I don't know if these places were open at 2 a.m., but maybe they were.
