Normally I would agree. But I think in this instance it is very much personal. Texas and LSU both offered him the same opportunity, to be their HC. Until Texas fired their coach, all indications were he was set to become LSU's HC. However, he made a decision to choose Texas over LSU, and I doubt money was the main reason. LSU would have paid more for him, but I don't think they wanted to get into a bidding war only to raise the asking price of the next guy when Herman inevitably went to Texas (because that's where he really wanted to be). Certainly it's his prerogative to chose the job he felt is best. But in doing so, he essentially said Texas is a better program than LSU. Next year is LSU's (and Orgeron's) to personally prove that opinion wrong. Make no mistake, for the administration and Orgeron, this game is VERY personal. Same for the LSU fanbase, because he clearly told you your school/team isn't as worthy of his services as Texas.

Herman is an UT alum. Of course he wanted to coach at his alma mater. Did he leverage LSU's interest to get a better deal? Likely. I was never sold on him, but admittedly he's done well at Texas. He just has to stop scheduling Maryland since they keep beating him.

The Jimbo situation was a little more bothersome. Either Jimbo played us, the timing was wrong or Alleva and co. screwed the process up. Probably a combination of all 3.

JImbo had problems with BIG $$$ people at FSU. he played us to get a better deal.
Jimbo was never coming to LSU and neither was Herman.....different reasons.

As soon as Winston left things started to go south for Jimbo.

Time will tell at aTm, he started w a lot of talent.
Of all the bad things that Sumlin did, recruiting was not one of them. He is a good coach...as to great, I do not yet know. Will see if aTm gets their money's worth. The news media is pushing him up...they would love for TX and aTm to become relevant again BIIIIIG Audience.
