The citizens of Shreveport who capitalized on the Haynesville Shale did not invest in the city. All that money could have been used to build a sustainable economy. Instead they blew it and now the city has nothing to show for it.

Given the leadership of this city it's not hard to imagine why they didn't invest, throwing good money after bad isn't a great idea.

I've lived here for 30+ years and it's always been about wasted potential. If all you know about of Shreveport is what you see from Downtown or I-49 then you are missing most of the picture, there's a lot of development going on and a lot of recent effort by those with the means and influence to start turning things around in earnest. The recent mayoral election is a good sign, I've got more optimism for Perkins than many based on the conversations with other veterans that have spoken with him at length. He really wants to leverage his resume, which is an enormous improvemt from the last barely literate mayor, to get some business development here.
