Especially for new coaches to a program. If you get a job at a place where someone was fired, chances are you have a lot of work ahead of you to get the guys you need

Nebraska built a farm system by over recruiting.
They had "Grey" shirts. Or kids would get "local" scholarships, and go on red shirts.
So once the Seniors left, they had a class of freshman ready, and another one of kids coming in. stacked that talent on talent.
