The legacy lawsuits is from a jobs perspective. Since JBE embraced the trial lawyers in those suits, even though there's plenty of activity going on in the Gulf for oil production, it's mostly happening on the Texas side of the maritime border. Companies are actively avoiding drilling in Louisiana due to those lawsuits, and it's seriously hurting the economies of towns like Lafayette, New Iberia, Thibodaux, and Houma.

I believe JBE lies in bed at night dreaming of ways to construct lawsuits on behalf of the state he can attempt to farm out to his lawyer buddies on contiguency. If he is ever successful look for him or his tiny firm in Amite to profit when leaves office. He probably has a picture of the tobacco lawyer billionaires on his wall.
