I guess I asked, because I had an uncle who was a highly functioning alcoholic for years. He was classic small-town horse-trading kind of guy. His line of work as far as the IRS goes was as a house painter, in reality he was a loan shark. He quit drinking and stayed sober for 17 years. I guess in his mid-sixties he went to his doctor and said after I cut the yard sometimes I'd like to have a beer. What do you think? and the doctor says if you can have one have it, at your age. So he returned to drinking but it was only beer, never more than 2 and not every day. He get on his tractor once a week cut his yard in the summer and would sometimes have a beer but even then it was not every time. I know the whole deal can be emotionally driven but it's all chemicals as I understand it and I guess they all react differently with people.

Just wondering..

I’m pretty sure I could just have one or two like with dinner, but why? Why would I want to? I guess after reading books I don’t understand why.

Alcohol is the only drug where you’re shamed for not drinking. You don’t go to parties and people say, why aren’t you shooting uo herion. But I constantly get asked and judged for not drinking.

I guess I’m to the point in my sobriety where I don’t understand why I would just want one drink.
