CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) is a real concern. It happened shortly after the advent of the telegraph in the 1800’s, it literally induced enough current into the telegraph wires they melted off the poles. Some railroad tracks showed evidence of a welding effect from the induced current flow.
There are several scientists who’ve proposed hardening our electrical grid with increased shielding and a enhanced grounding design. So far the power companies and government have chosen not to spend the several billion dollars to protect the grid. We’re more concerned with climate change. Lol!
