I asked my SO this, she is an ER nurse and has seen injury similar to this. She said they would come in on the stretcher with an IV usually already given a dose of morphine or possibly Fentanyl. When the ortho comes to see them they're given a dose of propofol to set it before surgery.
Not going to lie, I winced like a baby watching it. She was super excited to see the replays.

Of course they shot him with some dope immediately.
Fentanyl suckers are off the market. Too many dead babies.

They gave my 5th grader morphine a few years back when he broke his wrist

Why would they give him a slow release dose for cancer/hospice patients?
Yes, of course they shot him up.
The responses on her ER forums are blowing up with zingers;
" I won't even dilute his Dilaudid"
" I would believe him if he said 20 on a pain scale of 1 to 10"
"Nah, 0 being no pain at all, 10 being unconscious....he's a 9"
"9/10 pain, it's still attached"

heard your body goes into shock killing the pain temporarily
Speaking as a guy who went to the hospital for multiple nasty injuries during his younger years.....this is true.
It sucks for the first bit, then it’s pretty manageable.
