there's even a Sean Payton quote about the Saints ditching Suri as their doctor because of repeated frickups

quote:

In August 2017, the Saints made national headlines after firing two orthopedists following a misdiagnosis of cornerback Delvin Breaux’s broken leg as a bone bruise. One of those fired physicians, Dr. Misty Suri, was serving dual roles with the Saints and the Pelicans.

At the time, Saints coach Sean Payton explained the dismissal by saying, “I think it’s not one event, it probably builds up over a period of time. You’re not gonna bat a thousand here, but you’re just hoping that more often than not, you’re getting the right information.”

That's lacking a bit of context. Suri was the new junior member of the team that didn't stop his boss from making mistakes. IIRC they went out of their way to single out the head doctor in the misdiagnosis. Dr. Suri was collateral damage in the firing. At the time I definitely felt the Pels were falling on the sword by keeping the doctor of a corporate partner for the benefit of the organization rather than the Pels. And I think that probably was largely the truth of the matter. But since then we've seen nothing but improvements in the process. Dr. Suri is at the games checking injuries immediately instead of an athletic trainer. I still don't like the optics of how we got here, but Dr. Suri hasn't done anything to make me think he's related in any way to problems they had in the past.
