Correct me if I am wrong. A player died during summer workouts. A head coach and position coaches are not allowed to have any contact with the players during the conditioning periods. The coach relies on the strength and conditioning staff to oversee the training. I don’t know what any head coach or position coach could possibly do to prevent this type of tragedy. It seems like the training staff failed the playa d his family.
Maryland hired training consultant Rod Walters to review the football staff's handling of Jordan McNair's illness and subsequent death after a conditioning workout. Among the findings:

-- McNair became ill after the first conditioning drill, 10 110-yard sprints.
-- It took 34 minutes after McNair started showing symptoms of heatstroke for the medical staff to remove him from the field, 67 minutes to call 911 and 99 minutes before he left in an ambulance.
-- Maryland head coach DJ Durkin was at the workout and on the field. Durkin was not involved in the medical treatment of McNair.
-- Multiple players told Walters’ team that one Maryland athletic trainer yelled some variation of “DRAG HIS arse ACROSS THE FIELD” while McNair was struggling.

IMHO, Durkin is a POS.
