Went to go see his friend who owed drug dealers money, both ended up getting shot because of it. Dealers came to rob his friend ended up murdering both of them. They found my dad reaching for his gun that was on the other side of the couch.

That's the story I was always told. But a drug deal gone bad makes the same amount of sense to me. It is rare for someone get killed over pot, but it does happen.
