Am I correct in understanding that there's an age limit of 37 to be considered for a Marshal?
How the frick can the government discriminate based on age, but we can't?

You're talking about the US Marshals? Are you already a cop? If not, good luck.

If you're in law enforcement, apply for the USMS multi - jurisdictional fugitive task force through your agency. Best way to go. Raise, a car, and kicking down doors to the extent you like that.

Sorry baw. These days we only hire you if we dug coal together

We were the "class of 2016" that then went on to basically shadow another Marshal for a month until we were given free reign. I don't know if that's EXACTLY what the rangers would do, but from what I've seen/heard all government agencies with employees in the field basically do the same. It should be noted that I went to college but had zero prior experience in law enforcement. They just need good people with good work ethics, something the current crop of millenials is lacking.

Jump on with BRPD for a few years then transfer to their fugitive taskforce. They're desperate for new people right now. I would imagine you could move around fairly quickly and a pay raise seems to be on the horizon.
You could also join EBRSO, but they'll stick you in the jail for a few years before you hit the road, which at your age is likely not something you want to endure.
I doubt the US Marshals hire someone without previous experience. So many local guys are trying to jump to the feds now they can pick the best of the best.
If you just want to try police work but do not want to go full time with anybody, EBRSO has a reserve program that sends you straight to the street, avoiding the jail altogether. It's a part-time gig, I believe.
ETA: After seeing the quote above, maybe they are taking guys with no experience.

The reason for the cut off at 37 for federal law enforcement, is that you have to work for 20 years to earn the special retirement for LEOs - referred to as "6c" and "covered". Mandatory retirement from federal LEO job at age 57.

Yes there is an age limit.
Yes they can hire you without LEO experience but its tough....without you must have a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or related field.
They can wave the age restriction but they seldom do that without having an inside tract.

If you’re a vet it’s possible they’ll waive the age limit

Just depends on their hiring pool at the time.
If you are a veteran that will help due to veteran preference and it waves the age limit

My dad became a Marshal when he was like 45 or 46.
Granted, he had retired from being a Texas Ranger so idk if that played into it all.

Was he a Marshal or Deputy Marshal?
Marshal's are appointed and don't have age restrictions. Deputy Marshal's go through the hiring process.
