It honestly needs to be more than 4. You are forcing one P5 champ to be left out every year, and in the years that ND gets more than 9 wins and gets in, you are forcing two conference champs out. Either 6 or 8 would be ok.

I agree with 8. As fans, we know every year typically about 3 to 5 teams actually have a shot. With 8, enough teams get in to satisfy the UCF's or TCUs of a few years ago.
16 is way too many. Do you think #16 WVU or UK would stand a chance against Bama? Sure there might be an upset now and then, but i think end results of 8 of 16 teams would be the same.
