I loved Shin Godzilla, but c'mon. It was boring as hell for the most part and looked like a bad b-movie compared to this and 2014's Godzilla.

That is exactly what Godzilla has been since the beginning for TOHO. A slightly boring, bad B_movie glory fest. The man in the suit, the actors mouths not matching up to the English over dubbing, the Tonka toy quality of the machinery, the cheesy special effects. The exact thing that made all of us Godzilla fans from the start. The U.S. versions are big budget, over the top special effects masterpieces. They are visually appealing, but I still love the original TOHO Godzilla and hope they never stop making them.

People liked the OG Godzilla because they were so bad they were good. To go back and watch for any other reason than nostalgia is just a way to be disappointed. It needed to be updated to this century. The Japanese tried with Shin and the anime. Shin was ok, and the anime sucked hard. I appreciate that these characters are finally getting treated in such a way that their size and potential for global devastation is getting a proper portrayal. A Godzilla movie SHOULD be spectacle and over the top action. If this movie is better than 2014's, then even the Japanese public will want to see more.
