You don't really understand how recruiting works. There needs to at least be the illusion of long-term security. Orgeron has three years left, but I believe in December his buyout is only around $3.5 million. That resets to $5 million in January. That's an extremely low number when compared to the coaches he's recruiting against.

They'll probably do something where they add a couple of years and bump the buyout. He's definitely going to be here through next season, so I'm figuring they bump the buyout to around $10 million and it reduces throughout the year by the amount he's been paid, so by the end of next season it's down to around $6 million.

Basically, they're just going to be guaranteeing another year of his salary.

As much as we'd like to be able to not guarantee anything and break an underperforming coach off without financial repercussions, that's simply not possible without seriously jeopardizing the lifeblood of the program, recruiting.

This is ducking dumb.

We can’t convince kids O is Jimbo Fisher or Saban by paying him more.
