I wasn't suggesting that you can't have a family and work Big 4. Of course you can, I realize that. You just can't spend nearly as much time with them as you can outside of Public Accounting. I left Public 8 years ago and have not worked a single hour of OT since I left.
And while you won't ever set the world on fire working in Govt, you certainly can make well over $100K a year, and that is plenty for me and my family. I have no desire to be a partner and work 60 hours a week and travel. I enjoy being home with my family at 4:15 every afternoon.
No offense if Big 4/Public is the career someone chooses, it just isn't for me.
