I saw Michael Jackson walk into The Beacan Theater in 1995 when he was rehearsing his HBO special that never aired. It was literally 15 minutes before he collapsed.
My go to hotel is The Pennsylvania Hotel. It's not the nicest but I don't spend much time in the hotel. Its across from Penn Station so it's easy to get anywhere and it is usually on the cheap compared to other hotels.
Another place I have stayed is the Row NYC. Usually pretty cheap and close to Times Square and Rudy's.
