People present themselves at the border everyday seeking asylum. All the "liberals" want is for the law to be followed and applied fairly. Turning everyone away without considering their applications is not following the law. Putting them in barbed wire cages is not following the law.

People do present themselves every day. Of course, the most appropriate way would be for them to present themselves at the US Consulate or Embassy closest to where they live. That would save everyone a lot of time and trouble.

Now, there are 330 ports of entry from Mexico into the United States. There may be dozens of US employees working those entry points. If 15,000 people show up at one of those entry points, how are a few dozen people supposed to detain them? Sending the military down there and building tent cities was absolutely the right thing to do, but it cost us 10's of millions of dollars to do this. I think the whole caravan thing is a really crappy way to do this, and we not be sympathetic to anybody who tries to slide by using the caravan as cover. If anything, we should be more strict in reviewing the cases, and hold them in the tent city as long as it takes. We should also let them know that there are other options where they won't be detained for many weeks, and their chances of getting asylum are better.
