Probably in part because of downward pressure on wages due to a massive influx of low skilled labor from South of the border.

Increasing min wages leads to automation and the need for more imported, low skilled labor. Either way, it means higher unemployment

Probably in large part due to that, Seems pretty obvious that you can't add 10M potential employees to the employee pool and not expect wages to drop.

But automation and immigration have already caused unemployement regardless of the fact that the minimum wage has steadily decreased over the last 50 years.
