Most people in the south think Republican = Christian. And IMO, the two are very far apart.

I am not a fan of bringing politics into religion, but I would wholeheartedly disagree that conservative ideals and Christian ideals are very far apart.

Abortion would be a big one. If you are talking about welfare and helping the poor, Christianity does not advocate for the government to help the poor... it calls individual Christians to do that.

Republicans are much more likely to hold that morality is absolute, and that morality comes from a Creator. Liberals are much more likely to believe that morality is relative.

liberals are more likely to think the entire bible is bunk and hokum. from Adams rib to Moses breaking the tablets to virgin conception.

If god actually produced 10 rules to live by and gave them to you via a burning bush there is only one reason to destroy them without offendin godfather. That's so no one can actually see the never existed rules. How handy.
Same as Mormon tablets. Conveniently gone.

Ok. Are we pretending that Christians would take care of the poor if the government is removed?

To what standard? Like homeless shelter care?

Can you point to a time or place where you think this happened?

Btw, I think there are Christian charities that do wonderful work. I think there are religious people who do wonderful things. This isn’t intended as a slam on Christians.

Agree, but most people do it when convenient and more times than not, religion is twisted to fit a political view.

Christianity doesn't really advocate the government to do much and that certainly includes abortion. There is more in the bible about helping the poor and needy than about abortion. The problem is people tend to cherry pick their religious beliefs. Therefore many that are pro-life are for capital punishment and opposed welfare and vice versa. Or they may justify their belief in favor of the dealth penalty by quoting the old testament and ignore the new testament when convenient. In other words, people have there beliefs and most just use their religious beliefs to back up their argument. It should be the other way around.
