I still don’t know what to think about Canada’s tenure. Was his approach and scheme not right for LSU, or were the staff and players just unable to implement it?

This is the real problem yet no one sees it because of their negativity (on both sides of the fence).

Canada came in and all he preached was about building the program around the players we had. He didn't do that. He tried to implement the same exact system he had at Pit. There are a few things wrong with this.

1. Geographically in terms of conferences, the style of play is worlds different. What works in the ACC isn't going to work in the SEC. Teams are just built different.

2. You have to have the players for the scheme. You cannot run spread with the wrong personnel. Its the whole square peg / round whole scenario. We didn't have the receivers to run spread. People always think we have all-stars everywhere on the field. Last year, our receiving corps was really sub-par.

3. Time. This is what it boils down to. You HAVE to give your coaches time to implement their system and recruit around it.

Everyone around here is quick to pass judgement. Canada NEEDED recruits to fit his system. He needed 2-3 years. E needs the same time. He won't get it. Why would any offensive coordinator come here if he knows he is losing his job after a year. You can really tell how uneducated people are when it comes to football when they bitch and moan after a loss to probably one of the greatest teams ever and not see the issues we need to address to get to that programs level.

So who do we get? Briles? Freeze? If they come here, are they going to get the 3-4 years they need to get the recruits for their system?

Given a chance, and support from the HC, Canada's offense would have worked spectacularly well combined with LSU talent.

Yes it was a bit more complex but Canada's use of motion and formation makes the defender read and react to create that doubt in the defender , or gets him that half step out of position that makes all the difference in the man on man contests that determine if plays will succeed or not.

it does not require offensive blockers to simply overpower their opponent, or pass receivers to just run past defenders. It gives them a half step or a better position or angle to execute their assignment successfully against an otherwise evenly matched opponent.

Canada's use of jet sweeps and similar plays that stretch the field laterally as well as downfield forces big nose tackle body defenders to run sideline to sideline, tires them quickly and negates their strength advantage. It requires defenses to defend the entire field, not just the "phone booth" defenders know about before the snap in CCC CLM, & SE's predictable offenses!

But if the head coach can not comprehend the Canada offense, if he limits how much of it can be installed and run, that might lead to friction between HC EO and OC MC .

We can now see the results of that disagreement!!
