No need to speculate. SBC's comments at the time of the split below on Howard Stern.

Pretty much everything SBC said on Howard Stern was BS. Freddie Mercury, spoiler alert, doesn’t die in this movie. The film ends six years before his death and right after he is diagnosed with HIV.

SBC wanted a gritty character study of Freddie Mercury’s battle with the disease to go along with his bohemian, Casanovan lifestyle. It might have made for a better and more critically well-received movie.....but it wouldn’t have been what Freddie wanted. He kept his private life private for a reason. He would have wanted a film that celebrated his music - which is what this film reportedly does.

No one knows what he would have wanted, society has come a long way since he died and his reasons for wanting to be very private might not exist anymore. He very could have decided to be as open as possible, since people would be more accepting, or even use his own experience to help others.

and also, who gives a shite. hes dead, his life has been documented and commented on for years, and hes a massive figure in rock and roll history and also a pivotal character in the AIDS story.

like, seriously. then why even make a Queen movie if not just to remind everyone how awesome you used to be and hopefully sell some records.

What the hell does it matter what Freddie would have wanted?

That's not what he said. He was talking about the movie Brian May wanted to see made when he pitched it to him. This movie is a factually incorrect puff piece as someone mentioned. Also, Queen's music is a thousand times better than the movie. Go put on some Ogre Battle.
