I can’t recall all the details of what I did 4 years ago but here is the overview.
There are 2 intercontinental resorts over there.... and they are part of IHG. If you are an ihg member they will occasionally let you buy points at a fairly decent rate. For 6 days the points cost about 1800. This did not get over water bungalow and you had to book almost year in advance. Then call the hotel and request to pay for upgrade which was 200 a night. So basically got the bungalow for 500 a night or 3k total. Normally would be double that. Airfare used delta points from Lax to ppt (air Tahiti uni one way and Air France back).
Worked for us but you need that booking runway.
