I’ve always wanted to make my own wooden topwaters, suspending baits, etc. Anyway got a lathe, air brush, assortment of different woods I’m going to try and was just wondering if anyone else locally does it as a hobby? Hopefully I’ll have a few baits I’m going to test next week on the water.
First pic is basswood
2nd pic is Tupelo and very soft

Just trying to help out here, but your tool rest is backwards...
I have a lathe but have never tried to turn a wooden bait. I still owe BP a duck call and I really haven’t had a chance the last few weeks to work on it. I’ll get it done soon.

I have it backwards because the damn locking piece locks up between that and the piece of wood and gets in the way. That’s harbor freight for you. I could rethread it to fix it.

Bro this is pretty cool. Im interested in how they turn out, and perform. Definitely keep us updated.
