I get that, but a good filter will stop anything from getting through. A snorkel kit is like $400 not counting install. A filter cost ~$40 and last ~30k miles and is going to be replaced regardless of whether you have a snorkel or not. It may mean you replace the filter less often but I have a hard time thinking you'll come out ahead by getting a snorkel installed.

When I was driving on dry, silty roads where the dust was so bad you couldn't see behind you, I'd get like 1 month out of a filter
