They always advertise during college football Saturdays and I made the jump and I totally regret it.

As one small example if you follow the instructions they have you put in your Sim card first and then activate via website. Wrong you cannot access the Internet with an unrecognized Sim card so those instructions should be reversed. The cuts of the actual Sim cards had too much plastic to fit perfectly into the slide so I had to cut those out....And then they also say they handle all the porting and the vice lacking from your prior carrier which THEY DON’T. Basically I have to stick with them while waiting a couple weeks until AT&T unlocks my device. So I will be without a phone for three weeks.

I have been with Mint for a little over a year now. Started with the 3 month promo with no problems. Then went to the 1 year $300, 10GB per month plan and have had no problems. No coverage problems in the areas that I live/work. Started off using iPhone 5s and upgraded to a new Pixel 1 a few months ago. No problems with either phone. My sim card was fine. Did not port, just got a new number so I can't comment on that process. Everything else has been flawless for me.

I tried mint mobile, along with about 30 other companies. It's the worst one I've ever experienced. It might even be worse than FreedomPop and FreedomPop was completely free!

I am not familiar with Mint Mobile but...

They can provision the card to access the internet but only their activation site. That's probably what they've done, but you wouldn't know that since your phone is locked to AT&T anyway.

They absolutely have to port the number by law. Porting always works as a "pull" initiated by your new carrier to get the number from your old carrier.

As for device unlocking that always has to be done by the carrier that it's locked to. So it's not Mint Mobile's fault that AT&T won't unlock your phone.

I'm trying Mint now for my kids phone. Coverage is very spotty. I have another month on the 3 month promo. The price is good but no service in my house means a non-renewal.

I've had Mint for about 4 months now. I'm very happy with them, though they did have some growing pains over the last month they documented in their Reddit forum. They gave me three free months for my trouble, which was actually nil. They've now got Visual Voicemail and automatic APN setup on the iPhone, which they didn't have when I signed up. They've got everything my free year of Sprint had, except their service (T Mobile) actually works. I have decent data speeds in my neighborhood and inside buildings like Costco and restaurants, where Sprint had no data service at all. Happy customer. Oh, and the porting from Sprint was immediate and trouble-free when I did it. Should be getting back to that way again.
