Battle-Tested Vs. Well-Rested

Which one of these is the better benefit? When Bama comes to town they will be well-rested from the cupcake schedule. Many of their starters are on the sideline by the 2nd half, and they should be healthy when they come to town. LSU on the otherhand will have played 3 top 10 teams and 2 more in the top 25 with possibly Missisippi State being a 3rd in there if they beat Auburn. We will be battle-tested, but will probably have some players out with injuries and at the very least fatigued. Which one is the better scenario? We could afford to possibly lose this game and still have an impressive resume. If Bama loses I'm not sure how much it effects them due to the Saban factor.

bama never having to play a 4 quarter game will cause struggle for them mentally imo

Interesting question. If you can be battle tested and still pretty healthy, I'll take that. Alabama won't likely encounter any adversity before our game. I'd feel better as a fan knowing my team has been punched in the mouth and recovered than I would knowing we're well rested.

LSU's best chance for the upset will be if Alabama continues to roll teams up to that point.

I’m with you to a degree. I think their easy schedule benefits us more than them. Their defense could easily be fatigued if it’s a one score game. I think they haven’t been in pressured situations like we have. That benefits us as well. The only thing they may stack up better against us in is depth. And that isn’t by much.

Hopefully we will be good with key starters still in. Crossing my fingers!

Well the big thing is when they play a defense that can give it to them a little bit, how do they handle that? For all I know Bama will roll our arse too, but if I had to guess........giving aranda 2 weeks to prepare with all our analysts and talent should give Bama as much trouble as they are going to see this year. We probably wont get nervous with what we will have gone thru at that point. We have a shot in this game. Jmo

We should be able to get enough rest with the bye the week before, just like every year

Battle tested is more important imo.
I’ll never forget it, my JR year of high school our team was 8-0. We didn’t face great teams up to that point, but we were good. Week 9 we rolled into a game with a 7-1 team who had played 3 of the top 5 teams in the state. We got smoked... They had been tested and hit in the mouth, we hadn’t been.

We have a bye week to get healthy. UF is the focus

We lost a lot of people from last year but we did well in 2nd half vs UGA when the chips were DOWN. I think if we up our running game we are very hard to beat... but we are past the major sharp learning curve from game 1 to game 3 you normally see so blatantly. so, I'm concerned going up against real defenses that we can't rely on passing alone to keep drives alive and keep your offense off the field.
we have got to improve the head on running game. this from a well wisher (outside of when we play y'all.)
Looking forward to a real game again, fellas!
*edit*
Also... for me, THIS year, i would like one year to see our team at full health for once by years end. So, I'll take rested as for my vote. We have to play hard teams at some point... would like to be rested for our first huge one.

We've proven we have been tired by the end of the 3rd quarter almost every year in the last 6 years.

Depends on how your Staff practices.
If you practice like a game and games are like practices, "battle tested" is less valuable than being rested.
(yes on the old maxim about Roman armies, just butchered)
Also depends on your definition of "Battle tested" in some peoples eyes is having to play other physical teams, and being beat up a little. Bruised foreheads, sore groins, concussion symptoms you don't tell anyone about, 8 of 10 (including thumbs) fingers jammed or sprained.
To me "battle tested" is, for the player, knowing you are in a dog fight and that you have to execute without exception because the rest of the team, and maybe the game just might depend on it. The pressure of getting it right every time. And overcoming the adversity of failing in that. Has nothing to do with bumps, bruises, or going up against equal physicality.
With that definition, it's better to be battle tested. Because you've dug deep, for 4 qtrs, you can overcome weariness for long enough. You know how to do that digging, because you've done it before. When things go wrong, you don't fall apart... you bring it in tighter.
ETA: teams that don't know how to dig deep let tiredness overcome them... and they look like Arkansas. You'll see a couple of "gamers" surrounded by a "lack of supporting cast". Battle tested =/= getting your arse whipped... just look at them.

There is certainly merit to this possibility, the thing
is that for the scenario to happen is for us to play them close well into the second half.
One of the best examples of this was many years ago when Duke beat the undefeated and unchallenged UNLV in the NCAA basketball semifinals. Again this was only possible because Duke was the only team that played toe to to with them the entire game, when every other team that managed to play them close in the first half, wilted in the second half.

Bama will not need to be battle tested to beat LSU...they practice against players that are just as good as LSU’s team.

i do agree but this front 7 depth we have is better than in the past. Logan, ferrell, Baskerville, queen, thornton, anthony etc can come in for a drive and give starters a break in the game without much let down. in the past 6 years we didnt have that. remember Ego and Freak would play every snap most games. our Front 7 depth will keep us in a lot
of games

The reverse argument is that Alabama has been able to play so many more players bc they've been blowing every team out that everyone they play will have
at least some game experience and film work to look at, whereas LSU had to enter Hines at OG for his first ever OG experience at Auburn.

We haven't even played Florida..

We have UF, UGa, Moo U first and you're thinking about Bama?

The fact that Tua has not had to play under any stress whatsoever this year, combined with the fact their entire team has faced little to no adversity will play into our favor in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, they are a damn good team, but LSU is going to punch them in the face and it will be interesting to see how they handle it.
