I found a decent boat on the facebook marketplace but it has no papers. Ive read that its virtually impossible to get it registered without the proper paperwork, but the boat could almost pass as homemade. Wondering if anyone has ever had to register without the papers and how they did it..

I'm sort of in the same situation. I've been given an aluminum hull that has been registered in the past, but I have no papers on the boat. Trying to figure out if it's worth putting money into fixing it up or just pitching it due to issues i may face registering it in my name.

I had a sailboat that I owned for 2 years. All I had was a bill of sale, it was never registered when it was bought from out of state 2 owners ago. I tried multiple times to get it registered. I eventually sold it. I was totally open with the buyer about the whole ordeal and he said he didn't care.

I even had to jump through tons of hoops just to pay the fricking sales tax now required on private boat sales.
