Wait a minute. The battle of Guadalcanal ended in 1943. If he was in that bad of shape they would have sent him home after since he couldn’t be serving at 85 lbs. The war ended in 45 anyway. So say the story takes place in 46 or 47. You were 5 then? That means you were born around 42 during the war. You are 76 years old and posting on the OT?

Logic also dictates that this guy was old enough to have a grandchild yet was fighting in the Pacific
