It’s like someone else said: everyone wants to go to Texas to see cowboys, gunfights, and the “Old West”. The problem is that can’t be found in the big cities (if at all), and most certainly not in Austin (not a knock on Austin. It’s an awesome city).

I’m not even going to pretend I know a ton of local Texas lore and culture, but if I were going to place a bet on where to see the purest form of the old way it would be at rodeos/ranches in the High Plains and the like. Small towns, big hats, and maybe, just maybe, a true glimmer of what the old days were like.
